Grid-tied Solar Power

Why wait for others to solve Ontario's electricity supply problems?

Now you can do something about it that you will have direct control over, right now, on your own home.

Visit the Ministry of Energy website for more details on how you can be compensated for energy generated from solar panels by your local electricity authority.

How Grid-tied Solar Power Works

  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) modules convert up to 18% of sunlight into DC electricity.
  • Modules are combined into an array to build required system voltage and power.
  • DC electricity is converted into AC by the inverter and fed backwards into the grid through an existing breaker panel.

  • Operation is fully automatic.
  • Inverter shuts off if the grid becomes unstable or unavailable.
  • No batteries are involved.
  • Maintenance is minimal: occasional array cleaning and annual physical inspection are recommended.

Benefits and Features

  • No moving parts.
  • Quiet, emission-free operation.
  • Expandable over time.
  • UL and/or CSA Approved components for grid connection.
  • 20-25 year warranty, solar module output.
  • 2-5 year warranty, solar module workmanship, inverter and balance of system.
  • 2 year warranty on SolSmart labour.
  • 40+ year service lifetime.

Standard Components

  • 1,000 +/- 100 W (1.0 kW nominal) solar array of available modules.
  • Light-weight, Low profile aluminum and stainless steel roof mount.
  • Fused array combiner box for multi-string arrays.
  • Solar array DC disconnect switch.
  • 1.0 - 2.5 kW grid-tie inverter with MPPT capability.
  • Outdoor solar system AC disconnect switch.
  • Breaker, 120/240V double slot (space required in electrical panel).

Options

  • Tilt-adjustable solar array (5-15% power output increase).
  • Pole mounted solar array.
  • Sun-tracking solar array (25-40% power output increase).
  • Remote inverter display can be conveniently located in the house for viewing output.
  • PC data interfaces and software allow for system monitoring and operation by computer.
